Nothing Gold Can Stay
I had trouble understanding this poem so I looked it up to see what it meant. I apologize for this but i read it ten times and i couldnt understand what Frost was telling us in his poem. Some people said it symbolized the cycle of life and i can see how then can think so. "Nature's first green is gold," I believe this would mean the beginning of a new life hence, the beginning of the world. "Her hardest hue to hold" would probbaly mean the difficulty of starting a new life or the starting of our world. "Her early leaf's a flower" could mean the first humans on earth. "But only so an hour" could mean the first humans wouldnt be alone for long and there could be more on the way. "So leaf subsides to leaf" could mean more humans are born and thus the first humans have more company or they have their own children. "So Eden sank to grief," now I couldn't decide on this part on what it meant but I think it would mean the gold in the nature has disappear because it has gone to green. "So dawn goes down to day" could mean as days pass, and "Nothing gold can stay" could mean the world isn't as gold as we think it is so nothing is the same. So all together I believe this poem means we come into this world alone and hoping life is all fairytales and thus it would be easy. As we grow up we meet people who will dissapoint us and thus we see that life and the world is not as easy as we thought it was.

The Great Gatsby: Chapter 1
In the first chapter of this story the character that are introduced to us are Nick, Tom and Daisy Buchanan and Jordan Baker. There is a mention of a Mr. Gatsby. Daisy is a cousin of Nick who just came back from the east and Tom is Daisy's husband and Nick knew him from college. Jordan Baker is a famous for somethin but i havent figuerd it out yet. It seems to me that Nick might have some attraction for Miss Baker. The setting two islands that are shaped like eggs as told by Nick. At the beginning Nick tells about his life and how he fought in the war and now hes back to stay. The setting takes a turn and Nick goes to Tom and Daisys house for dinner. This is where Nick meets Jordan. Tom and Daisy seem to have problems because Jordan mentions to Nick that Tom has another woman in New York. Nick seems more laid back and it seems like he couldnt care about gossip.
The beginning seems some what boring but I am interested to see if Nick falls for Jordan because he seems to not be that well interested in a relationship. I also am interested to see how Tom and Daisys relationship develops or if it falls. I admit I love romantic books and this seems to be like it could have some romance and i cant wait to see how the book ends.

A Jury of Her Peers
In this short story the protagonist, Mrs. Wright, is being accused of killing her husband by the antagonist, the men in charge of finding proof against her. Their wifes come along to help but they make their own revelations and have to decide to turn her in or not. They find proof that she did kill her husband but the women confront each other on what to do. The yellow bird is a symbol of what really happened of what mr. wright did to his wife and of what mrs. wright did to him so she can be free.
I find this story interesting because when I was in high school we did the play but I never understood it until now. I like how in the end the woman decided not to turn her in to the police because it wasnt Mrs. Wrights fault but it was her husbands fault because he mistreated her and made her life miserable untill she was free of him.

The Tell Tale Heart
The protagonist talks about how shes not mad and that the diseas made all her senses strong and I believe when she talks about the diseas she maybe talks about something bad that the antagonist did to her. She describes the old man as a predator whom stares at her with his voulchar like eye and she feels like he stares down into her soul. Maybe the protagonist is a slave in that house and cant take it anymore so she decides to kill him. She says shes not mad and tries to prove to us that she's not. In the end she proves to be mad but i believe its her conscious that gets to her and tears up the floor where she hid the body.
I enjoyed this story because I liked how she went about killing him and hiding him in the floor where no one would find the old man. She had everything planned out and knew how to go about it. In the end the better part of her got to her and she thought she heard the old mans watch but it was his heart she heard and that says her couscious got the better part of her.

The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
The author makes the protagonist a strong female who was surrounded by unreliable men. The mood of the protagonist is anger bucause shes angy with all the unreliable men and i believe the antoganist would be all the men that left her. She has all that anger building up and she is also mad because God is taking her to soon in her opinion. All her anger is her way of expressing herself because of all the men and it doesnt help that her daughter cornelia treats her like a child and whispers sbout her. She hates being treated like she cant hear or see what her daughter does to her.
I enjoyed this story because it shows the truth about women dont need men to take care of us. We can do it all on our own and we dont need someone whos going to bring us down. I liked how she raised her children and took care of her home in a way she reminds me of my mother because she did all that without my father. I liked how she was so strong headed and just put her daughter down whenever her daugther was rude to her.

A Clean, Well-Lighted Place
The old guy at the cafe was a symbol of loneliness which made the two waiters reflex on their own lives. One of the waiters was a young waiter who apparently seems to just be getting a head start on life and the other waiter has a family and knows that he doesnt want to be lonely. I believe the protagonist was the one waiter that has a family and want to go to home and be with his family and go to bed. The conflict was the waiters trying to get the drunk old guy out of the cafe and out of their hair. The setting is at a cafe and its night and just a well lit place. The story is told from the waiters and it goes back in forth between them. The denoument is they finally get to close the place and go home.
I did not enjoy this story i found it somewhat boring I did not enjoy the plot and setting of this story. It took me three times to understand that the story was set around loneliness. No one wants to be lonely and how the one older waiter wants to get home to his family. I didnt understand in the end if onle one of the guys was a waiter and the other a bartender. In conclusion this story might of had a good message but it didnt stick.

First Confession
The protagonist was a child of seven years old whos name is jackie. He seems to be troubled because he hates his grandma and planned on killing her. He's an innocent child who doesnt know better and lets his emotions take the best of him. He's scarred his confession will take him to hell and is terrified. The time seems from back when u would ride a wagon into town, the mood seems easy going like a bright day and has an easy flow. In the end his confession is over with and feels better. He' more relaxed and is ready to go back to just being a boy.
I enjoyed this story because of the innocense of the child whos scared of confession because he's scared of going to hell. Jackie is a symbol of what innocense should be, he knows that wanting to kill his grandmother is a sin but just lets his emotions take controll of him. I enjoyed that he got over the fear of confessing and found a friend in the priest to whom he can confide to. In the end jackie was more relaxed and wasnt worried about confessions anymore.

The Yellow Wallpaper
The protagonist was easily brainwashed by her husband who I believe was the anatagonist. The author made the protagonist seem like she was helpless and i even thought of her as an older lady. The setting is sometimes exciting and wonderful and when the protagonist gets upset it gets gloomy. I believe the timne is set for in the 1900's. The plot of the story is for this lady thats obssesed with this yellow wall paper.
I enjoyed the story and found it interesting. I came to the conclusion that the husband didnt take any consideration for his wifes feelings. He seemed to put her down and just controll her. In the end I think the wife became to obssesed with the wall paper that she tore it down.

I Stand Here Ironing
The protagonist talks about her life as a mother and how she raised her daughter and the storys of how her daughter did throughout school. The setting is a t home and shes thinking about her daughter. As you read the story you think of it as a more interesting story not gloomy like in the first story. The protagonist is set as a strong woman who only wants the best for her kids and trys to do her best.
I wasnt fond of this story as i was of the first one. It was interesting and had more action to it but I didnt get into it. It had a good setting and i iked how the good the story line was but thats as good as it gets.

Everyday Use
The protagonist seemedn to be a strong minded woman who only had her childrens interest at best. I believe the antagonist was one of her daughters who seemed to be against how she was raised and didnt appreciate that her mother had done everythin to send her off to school. The mom was a heavier set woman that was not a good lookin lady. The house was set in a small town they werent wealthy but they made a living.
I have read this story before and I liked it. I didnt not like how the one daughter Dee was ashamed of her family n didnt seem to like them. Her younger sister Magggie was burned when there was a housefire and it seemed like Maggie was ashamed of herself because Dee always looked down on her. In the end her mom stood up to her older daughter Dee and wouldnt let her get her way.

The Story of an Hour was about a lady who thought she lost her husband. Her husbands friend, Richards was there when he saw the list of all who had been killed in the railroad accident. He had to check twice to make sure Mr. Mallard was dead. Mrs. Mallards sister Josephine is the one that broke the news to her. Mrs. Mallard went up to her room and was looking ou the window and saw something in the sky that brought back memories of her life. She was accepting her husbands death untill she was coming down the stairs and saw that someone was opening the door and she saw it was her husband. Her husbandsa friend tried to block her view but she caught the sight. Mrs. Millard died of heart disease of joy that kills.
My reaction to this story at first was confusion. I had to read it three times before I understood. When the lady was accepting her husbands death she goes and dies because her husband was alive. I didnt care for the story to much but I like how they had that twist at the end although it wasnt that good but it was ok. I myself like happy endings but sometimes a not so happy ending can be ok.
