Eva and Carol are the two girls that hang around with the boys because of a boat they found. Eva seems to be the leader of the two, well not leader per say but whatever she does Carol follows right after. I would put them around the age of 12 thru 15. The way they hang around the boys and how they speak to each other it's almost as if they are young and naive. The story takes place in a small town where it seems all the families know each other and nothing bad could ever happen. It's one of tose small towns where everyone grew up with each other and knew other people's business. The time in which this story takes place would be in the 60's maybe 70's. I would say this because of the sense of how they talked to one another but then when Eva speaks to one of the boy's mom she was all respectful and polite. Eva and Carol are at the age where they want to explore and be free and dont care what other people think of them but yet in the same aspect they want the boys to like them because Eva and Carol tell the boys they found a boat. They want attention and are willing to get it no matter what. Eva and Carol are the protagonist of the story because they are the ones that the story begins with and ends. The point of view would be third person. When Eva and Carol get naked with the boys it shows how free spirited they are and it shows how young they are as well. Well more likely Eva because shes the on that gets naked first and Carol has doubts about it. When one of the boys spits water at Eva it shows how she took it as an offfense and it shows that she respects herself and isnt going to let a boy have his way with her. Although she is free spirited she is also respectful to herself and wont let anyone take advantage of her. When i read it again i had the sense that maybe it was the time when kids hit they're puberty stage and all these changes come about them, because at first Eva was ok with being naked and then when she gets water spit on her it feels as if she was almost ashamed of it. Maybe this story represents the transition from childhood to young adult hood.
I found this story to be odd at first but then it was interesting because it felt like i was reading about litle kids transitioning into young adults as if it only takes a blink of an eye for us to grow up. I think the boat they found was a metaphor for them find their way and fixing it was the metaphor for them deciding to make sure they found their way safely and they werent going to take any chances. I enjoyed this story and was amazed by how one can grow up so fast without realizing it.
